IBM i to PostgreSQL

Your IBM i data, live in PostgreSQL

Sync400 copies your IBM i (AS/400) Db2 for i files into PostgreSQL with a full load, then keeps them current from the IBM i journal. Nothing is installed on your IBM i, and no RPG or CL changes are needed.

What Sync400 does

A one-way replica of your IBM i physical files in a modern database, for reporting, analytics and modernisation projects.

Full load

Copies the IBM i files you choose into PostgreSQL, converting IBM i data types and code pages along the way.

Change data capture

After the full load, Sync400 reads changes from the IBM i journal and applies them to PostgreSQL, so the copy stays up to date.

PostgreSQL where you want it

Your own PostgreSQL server, or PostgreSQL on AWS (for example Amazon RDS) or on Azure.

Visible, not silent

If a row or a step fails, Sync400 stops and tells you why, instead of quietly losing data.

How it works

Three steps, from a Windows PC on your network.

Install SyncTunnel

Install the small SyncTunnel app on a Windows PC that can reach both your IBM i and your PostgreSQL database, then pair it with the code shown in the Sync400 web app.

Connect your systems

Enter your IBM i host name or IP address, profile and password, and your target PostgreSQL. SyncTunnel checks the connection and explains any problem in plain words, such as “IBM i not reachable. Is your VPN connected?”

Choose files and start

Pick the files to copy in the Sync400 web app. SyncTunnel runs the full load, then keeps PostgreSQL current from the journal. After a VPN drop, sleep or network change it reconnects and resumes where it stopped.

Security and privacy by design

Built so that your passwords and your business data stay under your control.

  • Zero footprint on your IBM iNothing is installed on the IBM i. Access is read-only: catalog views, the files you choose and journal entries.
  • Credentials stay on your PCYour IBM i, PostgreSQL and proxy passwords are kept in Windows Credential Manager on your PC. They are never sent to Sync400 and never written to emails, files or logs.
  • Rows go straight to your databaseSyncTunnel copies rows directly from your IBM i to your PostgreSQL over your own network or VPN. Sync400 sees status and progress, not your rows.
  • Outbound only, over HTTPSSyncTunnel makes one encrypted outbound connection on port 443. You do not need to open inbound firewall ports. It works with your Windows proxy setting or a proxy you enter.
  • Protects your IBM i profileIf the IBM i refuses a sign-on, SyncTunnel stops and asks you, so it never uses up your profile’s allowed sign-on attempts.
